How BioLab AI handles your data
This is written in plain language, not legal boilerplate. If you need something more formal — for example, an institutional or FERPA review — email us and we'll work through what's needed.
What we collect
- Your lab report content — the rubric and draft text you paste or upload, used to generate your checklist score and coach conversation.
- Email, only if you choose to log in — logging in is optional and only unlocks “continue where you left off” across devices. We use it solely to send a one-click login link and identify your account.
- A display name — what you type when submitting to a class link (or your account email if logged in). See “Who sees what” below for exactly who this is shown to.
- Your IP address — used only to prevent abuse (rate limiting), not linked to your identity beyond that.
We don't use ad trackers, third-party analytics scripts, or cookies beyond the one that keeps you logged in.
Who sees what
- You see your own reports, scores, and coach conversations — always.
- Your instructor sees class-wide averages and common gaps from everyone who used their link. They see your individual name, score, and full report only if they're logged into the account that created that assignment — not just from having the link.
- Your classmates never see your report, score, or name. Reports aren't visible to other students under any circumstance.
Third parties involved in running this
Your rubric and draft text is sent to Anthropic (the Claude API) to generate your checklist score and Lab Coach replies — see Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle it. If you log in, your email is sent to Resend to deliver the login link. The app itself runs on Vercel with a Neon Postgres database.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data, to anyone, ever.
- We don't share your report content beyond the AI provider needed to generate your feedback, and — for class-linked reports — your own instructor.
- There's no advertising on this site.
Data retention and deletion
Reports and account data are kept as long as your report or account exists. If you want your data deleted, email us — we'll remove it.
Questions or deletion requests
This page describes our actual practices in plain terms, but it isn't a substitute for formal legal review. If you're an institution with FERPA or similar requirements, please email us before using this at scale so we can figure out what's needed together.
